The Salisbury Cultural District (SCD) is a multi-block area of downtown Worcester around Salisbury Street. The district is a cultural economic development construct designated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, and the Worcester City Council. Institute Park is located in the heart of the district. The purpose of the district is to highlight a large concentration of area cultural resources, institutions, and businesses, all within a walkable area of Worcester’s downtown and to serve as a destination for visitors to Worcester. SCD is a multi-sector collaboration among the City, the Worcester Cultural Coalition, district businesses, and district institutions including Friends of Institute Park, the American Antiquarian Society, WPI, the Worcester Art Museum, the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, Tuckerman Hall, the Worcester Historical Museum, and a number of area churches.
